bio
While discovering that biochemistry was not for him, Andrew Wass began dancing with Jean Isaacs at U.C. San Diego. Upon graduation he began studying with Eveoke Dance Theater and Lower Left. He has been influenced by his studies of the Viewpoints, Contact Improvisation, solo and group improvisations, modern and postmodern techniques. Influential teachers have been Nina Martin, Mary Overlie, Andrew Harwood, Ray Chung, Martin Keogh and Ruth Zaporah among others. He has been performing with Lower Left since 1999. Initially, he was drawn to work in video because it is very easy to schedule rehearsal time with a computer. Andrew has created video for the choreographers Nina Martin and Scott Wells. His video work has been shown at various venues around the country, such as REDCAT Theater in Los Angeles, ODC Theater in San Francisco, the Museum of Contemporary Art, La Jolla and DTW in New York. Since moving to the Bay Area in 2002 he has performed in work by Scott Wells, Shelley Senter, and Jess Curtis. His performance work has been shown in San Diego, New York, Tijuana, San Francisco and Marfa, Tx.
